Nicole & Earl – Tokai Forest – Engagement Shoot

05 Feb

Nicole and I go way back, like, right back to Pre-Primary School! From there, we went to all the same schools, right through to High School, often even being in the same classes throughout.

So when she announced she was getting married, I was so excited to hear I was her first choice as photographer! Wedding plans were made and, as things go, they changed (for the better of the couple) and they were married privately in August last year, so instead we did a Post-Wedding Shoot with her, her husband, and her sister.

We took a drive out to Tokai Forest and had a great time, despite the 40°C weather (!!), and got some great shots.

Nicole & Earl, here’s to many more years as friends, and more importantly, to a wonderful marriage between two perfectly matched souls!

Product Photoshoot

16 Oct

Just some pics from a photoshoot I did in November at the client’s house (not a studio). I worked with reflectors and natural light (the day was HEAVILY overcast). This is not something I normally do, as you all know I do weddings and pets, but the client was in a bind so I helped as much as I could. Given this isnt my “norm”, I’m actually happy with the results.

The girls in the photos arent professional models, which also makes it difficult to get perfect results, but, perhaps that adds a bit of charm to the shoot. However, there was one girl who really stood out for me, and was amazing to work with! If there are any photographers needing a girl who knows how to work it, and knows her body, then let me know and I’ll pass her details on. You can see her in the middle of the pic below. She’s not a pro model, but who knows, from what I worked with, she could really go all the way!

You can see more of the shoot on my FB page.

Taljaard – Kerr: Round the Bend Lodge

08 Oct

On the 1st-2nd Oct 2011, I shot my first Out of Town/Destination wedding – and what an experience it was! This little gem of a place, nestled away in a valley along the Breede River, is a perfect spot for a wedding! Its picturesque, tranquil, and very secluded! “Where is this place?” you ask. At Round the Bend Lodge, I reply!

As for the bridal couple themselves, they were lots of laughs the whole way through, right from our first pre-wedding meeting! It was really great, because I felt we all became friends by the time Sunday rolled around and we made our way back home.

The ceremony was held outside along the river, and even though the clouds loomed overhead, it didnt rain. In fact, I remember someone coming to ask the bride what her Plan B was just in case, to which she firmly replied, “There is no Plan B. It wont rain.”

The reception was held in the main lodge, where a divine dinner was served by fantastic (and attentive!) staff, leading up to the unveiling of the cake (which the bridal couple hadnt seen yet!). This cake was something to behold! Platters of cake and buttercream packed in an edible chocolate and fondant box, biscuits with merangue, jelly chocolate (not sure what this was, but I LOVED it!), and a log made entirely out of chocolate! YUMMY!

As the night went on, speeches were made, tears were shed among heartfelt words, and dancing was enjoyed. Cheers went up as the the mother-groom dance was interrupted mid-way by a pair of cheeky Angels in the form of the groom’s friends wearing feather wings (one in hot pink, nogal!) and feather halos!

The bouquet was tossed to all the ladies who werent yet married (which I thought was great, as the couple didnt want to single out the few, well, singles) and the groom felt another man’s leg (sneakily positioned between his wife’s legs) as he went searching for the garter, and loud guffaws of laughter could be heard throughout the room.

As I edited these photos, I couldnt help but lean towards a more vintage-style. I feel it fits the venue and personality of this serene wedding perfectly. Worry not, dear bride and groom, should this style not be to your liking, the originals are provided as well with your collection.

I cant wait to shoot a Trash the Dress session with this couple, if they’re still game for it of course!
